Agartala: Giving in to the demand of political parties across the country, the Election Commission has lifted the ban on election rallies in school and college grounds, it was announced today. "The commission has stipulated six conditions on the use of school, college and university grounds by political parties," Additional Chief Electoral Officer Dilip Acherjee said. He said a notification lifting the ban was issued Friday evening. "Political parties will have to get 'no-objection' certificate from the concerned educational institutions and they will not be allowed to disturb the academic calendar in any way," Acherjee said. The parties cannot also damage the grounds. If they do, they will have to pay compensation, he said. |
